Theatre & Ventilations Systems Upgrade - IRH

In this project, we upgraded the vital ventilation system within Theatre areas, which had been in a severe state of decay for years.

Major issues existed within areas such as:

  • Asbestos
  • Electrical Infrastructure.
  • Controls.
  • Laminar hood installation.
  • Dust Control
  • Noise control

Some of the works included the upgrade of cabinetry, lighting and flooring which had to be replaced when venilation works and canopies were installed.

The main issue was that funds were restrictive to enable a full upgrade to happen within the Theatre areas. This meant that we had to work around existing infrastructure problems where some previous installations were failing, being 35 years old in some cases.  We utilised existing installations and worked around issues such as:

  • Existing drainage externally
  • Electrical Infrastructure
  • Mechanical Control
  • Dust Control
  • Connecting to existing ventilation systems
  • Infection control
  • Working above such a delicate operational environment.

The careful and delicate co-ordination  with the following members was essential:

  • Facilities
  • Estates
  • Infection Control
  • User Management
  • Health & Safety
  • Fire Advisor

Additionally, careful consideration had to be given to noise restrictions while working so close to active Theatre areas. Access was also difficult and fire escape strategy had to me managed throughout.
