Ward G South Refurbishment - IRH

This project was fraught with difficulties from start to finish, with finance, operational and infection control issues in conjunction with infrastructure concerns and patient co-ordination whilst works were ongoing.

We had to maintain operational usage within phased construction process so that patient care was not affected. This was a respiratory ward, which could not be closed fully, due to patient influx demand.

Problems surrounding asbestos also existed.

Due to the complexity of phasing the project, which would normally have been undertaken over 16 – 18 weeks, stretched to over 9 months. This obviously increased cost as well as programme.

The careful and delicate co-ordination once again with the following was essential with the following members:

• Facilities
• Estates
• Infection Control
• User Management
• Health & Safety
• Fire Advisor
